Keynote: Janet Olson, Cadence Systems-Test Challenges in Advanced Designs and Technology

Moscone North Room 21 Wednesday, July 10
1:15pm to 2:15pm

Today’s designs provide unique challenges for test technologies - both from advanced designs as well as requiring knowledge and co-optimization of test and design.  Test is an integral part of design and needs to be a part of the implementation flow from the beginning.  Test also offers interesting new differentiators to the design flow with respect to high reliability and safety-critical applications, such as automotive and IOT medical. The challenge we have ahead of us is to merge test technologies with the mainstream implementation flows.  Today’s designs are also growing in difficulty and scale – new designs are hundreds of million instances and have complex functionality such as AI processing.  The challenge is to have the least power, area, congestion and timing impact while minimizing test time.  Traditionally these requirements have been treated independently which starts to break down with these complex designs on advanced process nodes.  We believe that a holistic approach incorporating implementation and test technologies is required to achieve an optimal balance of testability with smallest test time and least impact on PPA.
